Love? It Really Is a Battlefield!

Pat Benatar, or her songwriter, really got it right. It is a war out there, and people in love are on the front lines. Like wounded soldiers, thousands fall every day, bloody and bruised. Unable to get back up. People in relationships where love is alive take bullets for their Read more…

Nathan Mitchell: “Sometimes you need a divorce attorney. Sometimes you need a hitman.”

Following the very public execution of her mother at a Morgantown, W.Va., Wal-Mart parking lot, three-year-old Faith Mitchell is nowhere to be found. Her father and grandmother fled their Harrison County home months ago, taking the toddler with them. They did this not long after Shannon Stafford’s foster family fought Read more…

Skylar Neese: The Struggle to Find Closure Almost One Year Later

It’s been said there’s nothing more powerful than the elements: sun, moon, wind, or rain. But there is something stronger than the force of nature. It’s a mother’s love. So it was that Mary Neese braved today’s scorching heat and high humidity to dedicate a bench to her daughter, Skylar, Read more…

World News Tidbits: Women, Poets, Entrepreneurs and Taking Risks

There is just too much news, from all over the world. It flows in faster than I can keep up. Faster than many news organizations can keep up with it—much less a solo Lois Lane like me. So tonight, as this Memorial Day 2013 draws to a close, I’m going Read more…

It’s Official: My TEDx talk, “Silence Isn’t Golden—It’s Red,” is Live!

That just about says it all. But it certainly doesn’t tell the backstory. I think I’ve been speaking in public since I was about ten. Rarely do I get nervous. My TED talk was different. Maybe that’s because you know the status given to TED talks. Okay, so this wasn’t Read more…

My Advice to Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus

It isn’t going to be easy and every day will be a struggle. Maybe not a physical fight to survive but certainly a psychological one. Some days you will do battle just to be happy. From time to time you will even look back and think dying would have been easier. Read more…

Cleveland Case Shocks World, Shows Dire Need for Amber Alert Changes

When Chronic Pain Hurts Your Performance

After promising my readers not one but two books—Lethal Silence and To Shatter the Silence—by February 2013, and failing to deliver either book, I fear I’ve lost my credibility. So it’s time to come clean. I should confess: I did just finish one book, but it wasn’t either of those Read more…
