Hilda Heady is associate vice-president for Rural Health at the Robert C. Byrd
Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University. She is appointed to the West
Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and she also works with the Vice
Chancellor for Health Sciences. She serves as executive director of the West
Virginia Rural Health Education Partnerships, which has received national acclaim in
such publications as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Journal of
Rural Health
. Ms. Heady has testified before Congress on various rural health
issues. She was invited to the "Health Care Reform in Rural Areas" White House
conference in 1993 and was a regional finalist for the 1997 White House Fellows
program. Ms. Heady is a former VISTA volunteer, whose interest in rural health and
community development has spanned more than 30 years.
